UFC 121 Preview and Predictions

Hey there, UFC 120 has barely ended and we are on again waiting for without any question the more expected event - UFC 121 Lesnar vs. Velasques. Here are the matches I find more attractive, my thoughts on them as well as some predictions.

Lesnar vs. Velasquez
Brock Lesnar seems to gain a whole lot of attention every time he fights. UFC marketing really works ;) Don't get me wrong - the guy clearly is a top competitor but
he is having a lot of attention since the very beginning of his MMA career which is a bit unfair than some quite skilled guys. But it is as it is.Lesnar has gained a lot of respect after showing heart and power of will against Carwin. Now everybody is seeing him as a serious champ. We have to admit that his athleticism is on another level which definitely makes the difference in his fights because he clearly doesn't have much tools - he stand up game is ridiculous, very basic jiu jitsu skills. He has just this brute force and durability.
On the other hand we have Cain Velasquez - perfect technique, knockout power, cardio for +10 rounds. If Cain manages to keep Brock away from closing the distance and taking it to the ground he is very likely to be the winner. I don't see Brock outstriking him. The key to the victory for Velasquez is to keep it standing, keep good distance, strike and move away. If he gets through the first two rounds all the odds are turning to his side.
But I don't believe that Lesnar is not going to take Velasquez down - he just has really good takedowns and once he is on top his ground and pound will be devastating for Cain.
So my prediction is Brock by TKO(round 1 or 2) but I will be very happy if I turn out to be wrong.

Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampman
Expecting Jake Shield's UFC debut to be successful. Routine submission - round two.
The guy seem to be a real winner so he definitely has to win this one. But hey - this is UFC many great fighters from other promotions have failed here.

Ortiz vs. Hamill
The interesting thing here is that both fighters are at equal level - far from the best in the division but famous fighters with good skills.I hope that finally Tito will stop with the excuses. Both are hard workers, though and durable guys.I'm not expecting to see technical fight here - more likely ground and pound or some slug fight. I will go with a decision for Tito Ortiz here.

Schaub vs. Gonzaga
Schaub with no hesitation. The kid has great athletic skills, learned a lot since the Ultimate Fighter, great stand up and I guess he has improved his ground game lately.
Gonzaga isn't as good as the UFC is trying to convince us he is. Yeah shocking win against Cro Cop but nothing else.I think Schaub will be going for the knockout early in round one - don't know if he will get it but he is hungry and I predict he won't waste time.

McGee vs. Jensen
The Ultimate Fighter winner is definitely taking his mma career seriously and I see great desire for proving to the world that he is for real. I think he will win this one maybe via decision. If he is healthy and does the right thing after two more fights he might even get a title shot because we all know that the middleweight division is not currently at its best and there is a lack of good competition there.

Tell your predictions here and don't forget to vote in our poll on the right side of the blog :) Have a nice day!
