UFC 121 Preliminary Fights Results

Chris Camozzi vs. Dongi Yang - Camozzi Decision (Split)
Sam Stout vs. Paul Taylor - Stout Decision (Split)
Daniel Roberts vs. Michael Guymon - Roberts Submission (Anaconda Choke)
Tom Lawlor vs. Patrick Cote - Lawor Decision (Unanimous)

Court McGee vs. Ryan Jensen - McGee Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke)
I watched that fight and this is how I saw it - Jensen startet very well dominating MxGee during the first round showing superior stand up game. At that point McGee didn't have anything to offer in response. But suddenly druring the next two rounds McGee seemed fresher and pushed the fight. He completely smashed Jensen and managed to choke him. A good win for Court but still he is obviously not experienced enough and I think it will be good for him to have a few more fights in the preliminaries before going with the big names.

UFC 121 Bonuses

KO of the night goes to Velasquez - $70,000
Fight of the Night goes to Diego Sanchez - $70,000
Submission of the Night - Daniel Roberts - $70,000

UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez results and recap

All right this was crazy event. Here we go:

Lesnar vs. Velasquez
Did you SEE that?!? Man, this was so unexpected. The match starts and Brock rushes towards Cain swarming on him with punches and kicks even managed to take him down. The Mexican didn't lose his composure even for a second and remained calm fighting his way up from the take down and in every exchange Lesnar was the one getting hit with big shots. After the first minute Brock was gassed out , had cut under his left eye and was obviously not ok losing balance and not defending intelligently. On the other hand Velasquez took him down a few times and hit him with heavy shots and unlike the Shane Carwin fight this shots were very precise. Total dominance from Cain Velasquez and late round one stoppage sealed Cain's title. Brock didn't have any chance here and gave credit and respect after the loss. As usual I was wrong with the prediction on this one as well as the results from the poll here on max-aggression :)
Result: Cain Velasquez TKO.

Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampmann
Kampmann gave a very good welcome party. Shields as expected was the better grappler, very calm and confident in his ground game, impossible to submit. Though he won very close without dominating Martin. His win was deserved but not convincing at all. I am not sure if he deserves the title shot after this performance but he will get it anyway.

Ortiz vs. Hamill
Honestly I don't like much both fighters because they are not so well rounded. Both are wrestlers with good ground and pound but lack many other qualities. Though Ortiz showed great desire to finally win he was just not good enough. Maybe its time for him to give up. If you can't beat Mat Hamill then what title shots are you talking about, Tito? Hamill is a good fighter showed superior boxing skills but we all saw what happened in the Jones fight. I don't think both guys are any threat in the light heavyweight division. They are just not good enough. The UFC also knows that and this fight wasn't that important for the overall situation in the division.Good for Mat and huge loss for Tito.
Result:Hamill via decision

Diego Sanchez vs Paulo Thiago
As I expected a good performance by Diego dominating Paulo during all round and getting deserved decision win.Still has to prove himself after the loss from BJ though.

Brendan Schaub vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
As I expected the overrated Gonzaga was a punching bag for three rounds. Brendan was so much better in his boxing and dominated the whole fight giving no serious chances to Gabe though at the end Gonzaga almost pulled the submission.
Result: Scaub decision

UFC 121 Preview and Predictions

Hey there, UFC 120 has barely ended and we are on again waiting for without any question the more expected event - UFC 121 Lesnar vs. Velasques. Here are the matches I find more attractive, my thoughts on them as well as some predictions.

Lesnar vs. Velasquez
Brock Lesnar seems to gain a whole lot of attention every time he fights. UFC marketing really works ;) Don't get me wrong - the guy clearly is a top competitor but
he is having a lot of attention since the very beginning of his MMA career which is a bit unfair than some quite skilled guys. But it is as it is.Lesnar has gained a lot of respect after showing heart and power of will against Carwin. Now everybody is seeing him as a serious champ. We have to admit that his athleticism is on another level which definitely makes the difference in his fights because he clearly doesn't have much tools - he stand up game is ridiculous, very basic jiu jitsu skills. He has just this brute force and durability.
On the other hand we have Cain Velasquez - perfect technique, knockout power, cardio for +10 rounds. If Cain manages to keep Brock away from closing the distance and taking it to the ground he is very likely to be the winner. I don't see Brock outstriking him. The key to the victory for Velasquez is to keep it standing, keep good distance, strike and move away. If he gets through the first two rounds all the odds are turning to his side.
But I don't believe that Lesnar is not going to take Velasquez down - he just has really good takedowns and once he is on top his ground and pound will be devastating for Cain.
So my prediction is Brock by TKO(round 1 or 2) but I will be very happy if I turn out to be wrong.

Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampman
Expecting Jake Shield's UFC debut to be successful. Routine submission - round two.
The guy seem to be a real winner so he definitely has to win this one. But hey - this is UFC many great fighters from other promotions have failed here.

Ortiz vs. Hamill
The interesting thing here is that both fighters are at equal level - far from the best in the division but famous fighters with good skills.I hope that finally Tito will stop with the excuses. Both are hard workers, though and durable guys.I'm not expecting to see technical fight here - more likely ground and pound or some slug fight. I will go with a decision for Tito Ortiz here.

Schaub vs. Gonzaga
Schaub with no hesitation. The kid has great athletic skills, learned a lot since the Ultimate Fighter, great stand up and I guess he has improved his ground game lately.
Gonzaga isn't as good as the UFC is trying to convince us he is. Yeah shocking win against Cro Cop but nothing else.I think Schaub will be going for the knockout early in round one - don't know if he will get it but he is hungry and I predict he won't waste time.

McGee vs. Jensen
The Ultimate Fighter winner is definitely taking his mma career seriously and I see great desire for proving to the world that he is for real. I think he will win this one maybe via decision. If he is healthy and does the right thing after two more fights he might even get a title shot because we all know that the middleweight division is not currently at its best and there is a lack of good competition there.

Tell your predictions here and don't forget to vote in our poll on the right side of the blog :) Have a nice day!
